Tablet Computers
May 8th
Tablet computers are the newest technological toys of today. These sleek and lightweight gadgets are everywhere and are used for a variety of activities. Tablets can act as a slave computer, e-book reader, and gaming console. Some tablets even have communication capabilities (are able to make and receive calls, like cellular phones). Tablet computers are indeed very handy and very efficient. These fancy toys have ushered in completely different level of computer technology.
Contrary to public perception, tablet computers are not brand new inventions. Similar devices, bigger and bulkier and not as compact and stylish as today’s units, have been available since 1888. These units basically have the same data input and output on flat information display capabilities as today’s units. It wasn’t until 1968 that tablets that looked like today’s units were made available to professionals in the academic and research field. Tablets, at that time, were still not available in the mainstream market.
In 2000, Microsoft released the Microsoft Tablet PC which was aimed towards individuals in the business sector. It wasn’t until 2010, when Apple Inc released the iPad, the most popular tablet device to date, that the Tablet became a consumer product. The iPad has undoubtedly, made tablet computers a byword in the industry has made tablets one of the most sought after devices in the market today.
Retailers that distribute and sell tablet computers must have websites that are on reliable hosts. The reliability of host providers can be determined by evaluating the ratings and reading the comments found on web hosting user reviews. Host reviews, such as iPage Hosting Review, are run sites that outline the various capabilities, strengths and weaknesses of web hosts. These sites are great online resources and can be accessed by anyone at any given time.
Smartphones: Defined
Jan 23rd
Smartphones are cellular phones that offer users a lot of other functions. Unlike regular mobile phones where only calls and text messages can be sent and received, smartphone technology does more. A single smartphone combines the functions of a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), a media player, a camera with the basic functions of a cellular phone. Some Smartphone models are even equipped with features such as high resolution touch screens, wireless (WiFi) capabilities, GPS and mobile broadband access.
The first smartphone was the IBM Simon, a concept product that was developed and unveiled at a computer industry trade show held at Las Vegas in 1992. IBM Simon was followed by the Nokia’s Nokia 9000 in 1996. Two years later, Ericsson revealed the GS88, their concept phone and this was the first time the term “smartphone” was used. Since then, other mobile phone companies conducted their own researches and have developed and released various versions of the Smartphone.
Retailers that market and distribute Smartphones need to have good websites and have these sites on reliable host providers. Websites that sell or market Smartphone units are usually full of high resolution images and flash presentations. These functions are needed to emphasize a smartphone’s latest and best features. A Smartphone-related web site that does not function well is not a good reflection on the image of the phone’s developer. Therefore, it is important to determine a host’s reliability and capabilities by reading web hosting reviews.
Web hosting reviews, such as iPage Review are independently run sites that publish unbiased evaluations of the products and services offered by web hosts. These sites show how other reviewers feel about the host’s services; and whether or not the host should be trusted. Host reviews are great online resources and can be viewed anytime.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for Adult Sites
Nov 29th
Adult websites or sites selling adult toys handle a lot of confidential information. In order to gain full access to the adult site, members are usually required to register and give their contact details, if not their and credit card information. These data are needed to pay for items or access other pages. Companies running adult websites should make doubly sure that the integrity of their clients’ privacy is not compromised and they can do this by selecting a host provider that offers a fairly high level of SSL service.
SSL is not just for websites that offer online shopping. SSL, which is short for Secure Sockets Layer, is a cryptographic protocol that provides communication security over the Internet. SSL works primarily by encrypting the segments of network connections using asymmetric cryptography for privacy and a keyed message authentication code is required to ensure the reliability of the message. SSL uses two keys − a public key that is known to everyone, and a private key that is known only to the recipient- the second key is needed to encrypt data.
Websites with SSL protocol are more secure and sites with SSL connections start with https: instead of just http.
To check if the host provider’s SSL protocol is reliable, read web hosting reviews. Web hosting reviews, such as Fat Cow Review, are independently run web sites that publish unbiased ratings on a host’s products and services. Host reviews also publish impartial feedback and comments from the host’s past and/or present clients. By reading host reviews, developers of adult sites or adult stores can determine if a host provider can be trusted to handle their site’s security requirements.
